Higher dimensional repeatability and surface finish for production volumes in aluminum, including A356 and A357.
Read morePrecision Dry Sand
Thompson's proprietary Investocure process. Tight tolerances, walls down to .080 in, and grade-A X-ray for aerospace acceptance.
Read moreCore Room
Cold-box and air-set core production at scale, integrated with the molding lines to keep core lead time inside the building.

-
Yes. Thompson Aluminum Casting holds AS9100:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 certifications through Smithers Quality Assessments, and Nadcap accreditation for non-destructive testing through the Performance Review Institute. Both quality system certificates and the Nadcap scope letter are downloadable from the Quality and Certifications page, and Thompson is named a preferred supplier to Lockheed Martin Systems Integration.

Thompson routinely casts aluminum and magnesium parts from a few ounces up to 2,000 lbs on the precision dry sand line, and produces sand cores up to 23,000 lbs in the core room. Green sand parts run up to 500 lbs and permanent mold parts up to 120 lbs. Daily pour volume across all three processes averages 20,000 lbs of aluminum and magnesium combined.
-
Yes. Thompson is one of a small number of US foundries that pour both aluminum and magnesium under one roof, including AZ91E, ZE41A, and QE22A magnesium for aerospace gearbox, transmission, and avionics housings. Both green sand and dry sand processes accept magnesium, and Thompson maintains the dedicated melting and handling practices required for safe magnesium production.
-
On precision dry sand (Investocure) castings, Thompson holds ±.020 in tolerance with wall thicknesses down to .080 in, and routinely passes grade-A X-ray for aerospace acceptance. Green sand parts hold standard industry tolerances at walls down to .100 in, up to 500 lbs. Permanent mold supports the highest dimensional repeatability on production volumes up to 120 lbs.

Thompson commits to a written response within two business days of receiving a complete RFQ package: drawing, alloy, target volume, and program timing. For straightforward sand or permanent mold quotes the turnaround is usually 24 to 48 hours. Tooling-driven quotes for new dry sand programs may take three to five business days while pattern shop and core room input is gathered.
